The Heart Association

The stakeholder analysis inspired the Heart Association’s work by identifying the opportunities available to strengthen, target, and align the Heart Association’s efforts in political advocacy, relationships, and communication.

In short

Situation

As is the case for any patient organization, the Heart Association also constantly struggles for the goodwill of its stakeholders. Patients, healthcare professionals, and politicians all have a perception of the Heart Association – what it is, what it should be, and, especially, what it definitely should not be. This places great demands on the association to navigate and maneuver between the numerous and sometimes conflicting expectations it encounters.

Solution

An in-depth stakeholder analysis was developed in close collaboration with key employees responsible for the association’s relationships as part of the solution. The analysis was based on existing knowledge about the Heart Association and its work in advocacy, as well as a series of in-depth interviews with the association’s key stakeholders. The analysis was published in a comprehensive report and presented internally for use in strategic workshops and more.

Results

The stakeholder analysis inspired the Heart Association’s work by identifying opportunities to strengthen, target, and align the association’s efforts in political advocacy, relationships, and communication. This was beneficial for the aim of realizing the association’s full potential – bridging the desires and interests of stakeholders.

Description

At the Heart Association, the fight is for the heart beating within us all – because no one should stand alone when lightning strikes. Since 1962, the association, through knowledge, investments, and crucial outcomes, has contributed to Denmark reaching an international top level in heart disease research. Every day, the association takes up the battle for the heart and the approximately 524,000 Danes living with a heart condition. In recent years, they have also intensified efforts to educate Danes in life-saving first aid, expand the number of defibrillators in public spaces, and provide every individual affected by heart disease the opportunity to seek help, support, and guidance from the Heart Association.
